Happy Swim Berlin can help you to swim faster and more efficiently. Recreational swimmers and triathletes of all levels are welcome: non-swimmers, beginners and improvers, as well as experienced swimmers who want to improve their performance. Happy Swim Berlin offers group training and individual coaching sessions.

Group training

Group training is ideal for adults non-swimmers, swimmers who can swim breaststroke confidently and are now keen to learn freestyle (front crawl), or to improve and refine their freestyle technique.

Group training begins in early October with sessions focusing on basic swimming techniques, and ends in May of the following year with targeted sessions to prepare for the open water and triathlon season.

Every week you will complete two training sessions: you’ll do the first session on your own, following the training plan you’ll be sent at the beginning of the week; the second is an effective 60- or 90-minute group training session where we focus on speed and technique; this session is led by me – in German or English – and you will be in a group of eight people at most.

There are 4 group levels

Non-swimmers (= HSB 1.0): You don't know how to swim yet, but finally want to get started? Then our beginners' groups are perfect for you! The prerequisite for these courses is that you are confident in 1.35 metres of water and are not afraid to briefly dip your head under water. Currently no new courses on offer.

Freestyle beginners (= HSB 1.0+): You can swim at least 25 m breaststroke with confidence and are not afraid of swimming in deep water (2.25 m deep throughout). In this group you will learn the core elements of freestyle (front crawl). Please note: this course is not suitable for non-swimmers! If you are a complete beginner who wants to learn to swim, please book HSB 1.0.

Advanced (= improvers; HSB 2.5): You have already mastered the core elements of freestyle (front crawl). In this group you will develop and improve your freestyle technique. During each 90-minute session you will swim up to 2 km in total.

Advanced+ (= experienced; HSB 2.5+): You can swim 100 m freestyle (front crawl) in under 2:00 min, and you have already mastered breaststroke and backstroke. In this group we will focus on refining your swimming technique and increasing your speed and stamina.

Your coaching team

Happy Swim Berlin was founded in 2011 by Dirk Nanni – initially in the form of intensive training weekends. The passionate swimmer and runner from Berlin can look back on decades of experience as a coach in popular sports and competitive swimming and has successfully completed numerous competitions. His successes include the 2017 Masters World Swimming Championships in Budapest, the Öttilö SwimRun in Rheinsberg (2019) and in the Engadine (2019 and 2021). Before Dirk fully dedicated himself to Happy Swim Berlin and also launched it in Lech am Arlberg, Austria, in 2021 under the title Der Bergschwimmer, he worked as an agency owner in sports event management and advertising for almost 20 years. Among other things, he organised the SkyRun Berlin, the Parkhausmeile, the Berlin Relay Triathlon and the Berlin Aquathlon for many years and published the popular “Wettkampf-Fibel”, a collection of endurance sports events in several federal states.

Hanka Gränitz joined the Happy Swim Berlin team in June 2024. The geology student trains at the Berlin TSC and can already look back on numerous competition successes: in 2023, she was ranked first in the German Masters best list in the 200 metre butterfly. She won silver three times at the 2024 North German Masters Championships and came 5th in the 200 metre freestyle at the 2023 German Masters Championships. She already has her sights set on the next championships. Hanka trains ten to twelve hours a week, plus athletics. She is happy to pass on her knowledge. Many Berlin children have learnt to swim with Hanka, and triathletes also like to get tips from her for new best times. No wonder – Hanka is very patient, can motivate and inspire ambition.
